Happy New Year. I have collected data for the past seven years for Lake Winnipesaukee Home Sales. There are some statistics that you would expect; such as the number of sales have fallen since the high of 2004 (152) and the days on market have trended up. However, there are some things you would not expect. For example, the average sale price for homes sold on Winnipesaukee was the highest in 2010 and sales of homes over 1 million dollars is up almost 60 percent from 2009 to 2010. As a Realtor in, and more importantly, as a resident of New Hampshire, I find this article very comforting. It depicts what each State’s unique characteristic, description or land mark is most popular according Google auto complete. You will notice that most people typing in New Hampshire are looking for Real Estate, they are not looking for a college, Florida State University, or a newspaper, New York Times.

Ever wonder what a map of the U.S. would look like if all of the states’ names were altered to match the suggestions offered by Google’s autocomplete search algorithm? Wonder no longer.
Some — like “Washington Post,” “Kentucky Fried Chicken” and “Arizona State University” — came as no surprise. But I couldn’t have guessed that “Utah Jazz” and “Hawaii Five O” would have made the map, and I’ll admit to looking up “Missouri Compromise” on Wikipedia. (It was an agreement passed in 1820 that effectively prohibited slavery in the northern part of what was then called the Louisiana Territory, except within the borders of the proposed state of Missouri. In case you were wondering about that, too.)
